PUB DATE: September 7, 2011

The highly anticipated debut from n+1 cofounder Chad Harbach: an unforgettable novel about the glory of youth and five lives on the brink of enormous change. Harbach writes with a limitless warmth and insight reminiscent of masters such as Michael Chabon and John Irving.  In THE ART OF FIELDING, Henry Skrimshanger is a preternaturally skilled shortstop who flourishes on the field, until one of his throws goes drastically off-course, shattering everything.  In the aftermath, the fates of five people are upended, and all are forced to confront their deepest hopes, anxieties, and secrets. This is an expansive, warmhearted novel about ambition and its limits, about family and friendship and love, and about commitment—to oneself and to others.
